Dispute Resolution

Dispute Resolution for Business owners, Investors, and Residents

Hotel owners must manage ongoing relations with their local village. Contributing to the wellbeing of local residents through employment, capitalising development projects, and charity is a virtuous circle, and helps to avoid difficulties with land being re-sold to third parties, trespass, and impairment of enjoyment on boundaries and adjoining beaches. A constructive relationship with locals is maintained through regular monthly contact and interaction on multiple fronts, and pays continuous dividends to the business investor. Failure to maintain this relationship leads to problems in court, and with local government and police.

Residents and Business owners can find challenges flare up over land title and access rights, or local village or government department disputes, and require disproportionate use of time and resources to resolve.

We work for our Investors with local residents, and central and local government and Ministries to resolve disputes bilaterally and through the courts.

Case study (2023)

Our Hotel client found that a third party was building a new hotel on the edge of their land and the public beach. Prior to our involvement the case was in court for almost 1 year with no progress. We were engaged and within 3 weeks the Government demolished the building and removed all materials from site. We have engaged a more senior Advocate to conclude the Court case.

Tax

We work on resolution of local business tax disagreements with the Zanzibar Revenue Authority, business owners, and their accountants.
